COUNTING YOUR STEPS
A
pedometer — a little, watch-sized device that counts your steps — is a great way to gauge how much you move every
day. Sold at most sporting goods stores for about $10.00, pedometers attach to your waistband and count your steps throughout
the entire day. To see how active you really are, start recording your steps on your calendar or in your journal at the end
of each day. Walking
fewer than 8,000 steps per day is considered sedentary, which means you're not getting enough exercise. Between 8,000 and
10,000 steps is considered active. To increase your average, try walking 100 extra steps every day. Set a higher goal each
month until you are walking 9,000 or 10,000 steps per day. Keep building your goal, and depending on the length of your stride,
your additional steps could add up to approximately two miles. All that moving around can help you lose weight and feel better.
So keep walking!
